The Suggestopedia method is based on the power of suggestion in learning; the idea is that positive suggestion would make the learner more receptive and, in turn, stimulate learning. This method was created by Georgi Lozarnov, a Bulgarian psychotherapist whose main belief was that embarrassment and stress could stop students from learning, so he thought of using music to facilitate this process. HOW DOES IT WORK?

This methodology of learning/teaching languages is based on the idea that teachers should be as quiet as possible during a class and let students speak more and more. This method was created by Caleb Gattegno. The Silent method puts emphasis on the student's autonomy to learn a language with less teacher intervention, turning the role of the teacher into a "monitor" role. The aforementioned method  also puts a great emphasis on correct pronunciation from the very beginning. HOW DOES IT WORK?

This method, also known as the "army method", was developed during World War II. It arose out of the need to make soldiers communicate more effectively since it was crucial that everyone knew how to communicate regardless of their mother tongues. HOW DOES IT WORK?

The direct method, also known as "the natural method" is currently the most used method in language academies around the world. This method is characterized by using exclusively the target language in class, having a more active interaction between teacher and student, and being highly dynamic since one of the main objectives of this method is to relate the language to the student's experiences. This method was established in Germany and France at the beginning of the 20th century and has been adopted by renowned academies such as Berlitz and Alliance Fran莽aise. Among the early adopters in the USA was German linguist Maximilian Berlitz (1852-1921). He became convinced of the effectiveness of this method when he fell ill and was forced to entrust French teaching to one of his assistants who did not speak a word of English.  HOW DOES IT WORK?

During this week we reviewed the Grammar Translation method, one of the first teaching-method using by humanity, better said, one of the most widely used ones around the world. This method derives from the classic way of teaching Latin and Greek in ancient times, and even during the 20th century it was still used in language academies.  HOW DOES IT WORK?
