Learning Styles

We return to the usual programming after the Easter holidays (I was not ready for that 😭).

For this following weeks, the teacher introduced us to the topic of "learning styles."  For many years this theory that people have different types of learning has been given. The first to define this system of different types of learning were Neil Fleming and Christopher Mills in 1992 with the VARK model. The acronym VARK stands for: Visual, Auditory, Reading/Writing, and Kinesthetic.

But what does it mean?

Visual learners are the ones who prefer to learn through visual aids. For example, using charts, diagrams, videos, drawings, and graphs. Colors and shapes are also important for them.

Auditory learners are the people whp learn through sounds, specifically spoken words. Podcast, audios and lectures are perfect for them.

Reading/Writing learners prefer to learn through reading and writing activities such as textbooks, handouts, and note-taking.

Kinesthetic learners use their senses to learn. They use their hands and body to develop a better understanding of each topic.

As introduction of this topic, we took different tests to know what kind of learning styles we have. In my case, I'm a visual-auditory learner!

My mates have different styles too, but somehow we manage to do an excellent work as a team. 😘

This is us discuting about one of the tests.

The next week, the professor asked us to take a topic and use it to pull together the VARK system for a class. I didn't have any idea lol but luckily Nathaly 🌹 have experience as a teacher so she suggested to use the topic "PART OF A HOUSE". It consisted on using the VARK system in this way: first, using flashcards and drawings for the visual learners; second, use the repetition drill method for the auditory learners; thrid, make the kids write a short story or a description of their houses to make the activity more accurate for the read/writing learners. Finally, create a model of a house with our own hands for the kinesthetic kids.

Kirby was an important part for this project

We couldn't done ANYTHING without poyo

After that, we did a short exposition explaining our plan.
